As I was trying to begin this blogging journey another journey came to an end.
The last time I was with him was about a month ago on his 86th birthday. It feels surreal. And yet familiar. I know what it is to lose a loved one. My grandfather is one of those few who lived a full life, a king size life without regrets. He is a well-known respected figure where he lives and heralded as an irreplaceable icon within the legal fraternity in the entire state. A multi-faceted philanthropist loved by all in his community. A brilliant lawyer recognized for his humility, dignity and generosity of spirit.
His funeral and memorial service was one befitting a king with esteemed judges and dignitaries reminiscing about the wonderful person he was. But what was most touching was the amount of love he garnered from people from all walks of life. He was kind and treated everyone with respect and everyone remembered that.
He was hands down the most charismatic, erudite, brilliant, generous and loving man I will ever know. His loss is insurmountable but his life was legendary and inspirational. Above all he had been the coolest, most amazing parent and grandparent. We miss him dearly but more importantly we will celebrate his magnificent life forever.
