My vegetables enshrined
Daughter is not inclined
Soup and salads are not a choice
I cook them in every style
Battered and bruised
But still not rejoiced
Many weeks of hopeful market trips,
Fresh with dirt and promise
My heart skips,
But alas! It’s all the same again
Attempts at a veg Nosh,
Completely lame
She turns her face
Nose up in the air,
An air of disdain
For those steamed veggies
She shows not a care
My sinking heart is full of despair
And then! Behold!
What is that?
A child’s finger on greens!
A careful inspection
The sound of the scrumptious
Chomp of my dreams
Only its not my picky 4 year eater
It’s the smaller one with teeth
The nonchalant meat eater
She consumes her bite
Looks at me with delight
And reaches for more
Finishing veggies galore
So, finally vegetables have a place
In my home
They don’t go stale
And go to waste
In the trash all alone
And my fussy daughter?
I’m hoping she’ll come around
She’s not twitching her nose as much
Or treating them like weeds and bugs
They’re valued and eaten
A true treat
We’re not beaten,
For now! 🙂
This poem was written a few months ago and things have changed since then. My younger daughter is now refusing to eat greens and the older one is doing a lot better. In conclusion, it’s an ever changing story! What do your kids refuse to eat? Any neat tricks that were successful? Please share them!
